Burntwood stay 3rd in the league table after a hard-earned win at home to Leek. The match also counted as a Staffs Intermediate Cup quarter final tie so there was double delight for the hosts as they now progress to face Tamworth in the semi final.
On a superb playing surface, ideal for running rugby, a disappointing contest ensued which only sporadically burst into life. Weak officiating did little to help either side’s cause but at least Burntwood won to stay in contention for the league runners-up spot.
A disappointing performance by Burntwood, who failed to take their chances until too late in the game, saw them go out of the competition and allow Tamworth to go forward to meet Trentham in the final.
The result of this match, plus
Shrewsbury’s win over Leek, pretty much decides the top 3 places in
Midlands 4 West North. Willenhall’s win gives them the title and they
are only 2 matches away from completing the perfect league season.
