Burntwood bounced back from their disappointment at Veseyans a week earlier with their best rugby of the season so far. In the opening hour they ran and supported each other superbly to score 6 tries, 4 of them in the first half when they played into the teeth of a strong wind.

Burntwood completed an early season league and cup double over Bloxwich after a see-saw encounter which was far more entertaining than the Staffs Cup game played at the beginning of September.

Graham McDonald’s reign as Burntwood’s new Head Coach began in fine style with a win over previously unbeaten Wednesbury. They now leapfrog their Black Country neighbours into 2nd place in the table and are currently the highest points scorers in the league.

Having taken away Wednesbury’s unbeaten start to the season, Burntwood did the same to their visitors from Derbyshire to progress to the 3rd Round of the Senior Vase. Two converted tries within 3 minutes close to the hour mark effectively decided the tie, the sides having only been separated by a point at the break.   Read More...


 

 

Burntwood retained 2nd place in the league table after their 5th league and cup win on the trot but their performance slipped below the high standards they have set themselves in recent weeks. Handsworth had little to offer in terms of attacking play but they were successful in slowing down and disrupting home possession.
