Excerpt from The Trader Oct 26th 1995 Fifty Up In Record Win Burntwood were in devastating form for the visit of near neighbours and local rivals Rugeley as they swept to the biggest win in the clubs history. Delighted club captain Rob Forsyth said that everything had come right on the day and that Rugeley were unfortunate to come up against a Burntwood side firing on all cylinders. "It was just one of those days where everything clicked and we played perfect rugby," he said. Rugeley started well enough and had the best of the opening exchanges. Trouble was -for them- that as soon as Burntwood were allowed a sniff of the ball they ran riot with it, Ian Harris in particular put them in all sorts of trouble. Leading by a solitary penalty kick, Rugeley were forced back as the Burntwood onslaught took shape. Tries from Harris (2) and Dave Carlyle contributing to a 22-3 half time lead and it could have been more. In the second half Harris and Carlyle completed hat tricks while Matt Bray and Ian Wilner added a try apiece. Rugeley's reward for not giving in was a penalty try scored in the late few minutes but it was too little too late. Conditions were ideal for rugby and Burntwood took advantage of the fact to produce some superb passing play. Mark Wager was a major influence and kept the ball flowing throughout. "There was plenty of pace about the Burntwood attack today and now we have to keep that momentum going into the next game," said Rob. "It was a quality performance all-round and the team couldn't of performed any better." The team are unbeaten in four matches and the win over Rugeley takes them to the top of Division 2 in the Staffs/Warwick league.
Burntwood seconds were also in convincing form as they travelled to face Rugeley seconds. Two tries from Daniel Black helped them to a 33-3 success. the other try scorers for Burntwood were Jimmy Wright, Mark Richardson and Kevin Worrell. Burntwood fourth's visited Trentham and won 27-15. It proved a memorable day for debutant Jean Forbes who scored a hat trick of tries.
