Even with one league game to go, Burntwood U17s ensured qualification for the National Cup by securing 2nd place in the table behind Lichfield. They were not at their best away to Burton but still returned with a share of the spoils 12-12.
A delayed start due to frost didn’t seem to affect Burntwood as they dominated possession and territory in the opening 15 minutes. They were rewarded with a try from Danny Hackett who took a reverse pass to storm in from 30 metres. Matt Wood converted.
However, they couldn’t add to the lead and close to half time they were almost back to level pegging. Indecision following a charged down kick allowed Burton to run the ball out from their own line. The ball reached their winger and he was away for a length of the field try.
The home side went ahead right at the start of the second half, the visitors’ defence buying an outrageous dummy by the outside half to produce a converted try.
Burntwood made changes and got back on top. Winger Alex Roberts made a good run downfield and was just forced into touch. From the line out Burton missed touch and the visitors ran the ball back for Ben Holt to score.
Burton missed 2 kickable penalties but the game gradually petered out to finish in stalemate. Chris Garner performed well on the wing and scrum half Mitch Adams did well to tidy up unusually poor line out possession.

Burntwood U15s were involved in a good contest at home to Kenilworth which the visitors won 24-13.
Kenilworth started the match better and had 2 tries and a conversion to show for it in the opening 15 minutes. Mitch Carless kicked 2 penalties to keep Burntwood in touch 12-6 at half time.
Sloppy defending allowed Kenilworth to extend their lead with 2 more tries but Burntwood upped their game late on. The pack drove into the visitors’ 22 to win a penalty. A quick tap and Brett Taylor was in for a try converted by Carless.
Rob Makin impressed and there were some good runs by Dan Thornton. According to coach Tony Sutton, to improve, the forwards need to sort out their rucking and mauling.

Burntwood U14s edged a close game at home to Uttoxeter with a late converted try 19-17. They made a slow start, conceding early tries from open forward play.
However, they didn’t drop their heads and excellent inter-linking produced tries for Thomas Hall and Oliver Aleksejuk and a conversion by Luke Rookyard.
There was good attacking play by both sides after the break with Burntwood being the more ambitious. Finally, Ashley Cockrill crashed over for the vital try and Rookyard’s conversion won the game. Aleksejuk was nominated man of the match.

Burntwood U12s played on the artificial surface away to Wednesbury due to the frost. The home side settled quickest but Burntwood came back strongly to win 45-20.
Wednesbury’s 2 early tries were cancelled out by a brace from Harry Davison. The home side then scored the next 2 but Burntwood grew in confidence to score through David Fox (2), Dylan Webber, Sean Latham, Thomas Hasen-Smith, Davison again and Nathan Berrow.
