Match Reports
Burntwood u17's 53 Eccleshall u17's 0
On Sunday the U17s travelled to Eccleshall with a bare 17 man squad due
to injuries and unavailability but still came away with 53 unanswered
points to maintain their perfect record in the league.
They also had to overcome a whistle-happy referee who mounted an
impressive penalty tally against the local lads who finished with 3
players in the sin bin.
After a frustrating opening 15 minutes, Danny Hackett appeared on Matt
Wood’s shoulder to score in the corner. Ben Holt made it 10-0 with the
2nd try before Jason Finch and Josh Bayliss added 1st half tries both
converted by Wood.
Hackett completed a hat trick with 2 quick tries in the second period
following typical barn-storming runs. Rory O’Connor fed Bayliss for the
next and 2 Wood conversions carried Burntwood past 40 points.
It was then winger Mitchell Adams who set up the last 2 tries. Both
times his weaving runs took him close to the line. When he was stopped
he off-loaded to Holt on both occasions for the latter to complete his
hat trick.
Hackett, Holt, Adams and O’Connor were stand out performers but man of
the match was Gregg Findlay who channelled his aggression into the game
in fine style.
Burntwood U16's
5 Wolverhampton U16's 26
The U16s lost out to W’ton 26-5 but the
U15s beat Eccleshall 40-5 with tries from Brett Taylor (2), Dan
Thornton, star performer Brad Carter, Liam Wallis and Jack Johnson.
Mitch Carless kicked 5 conversions as the lads ran riot in the first
half but it was much more even after the turnaround.
Burntwood U14's 10 Leek U14's 7
The U14s achieved a fine
league win away to Leek by 10-7. In a contest not for the faint-hearted,
Burntwood’s front 5 were on top form with a dominant display in the
scrums.
A member of that unit was Dominic Angelaki who powered over for the
first try. Skipper Thomas Hall went close to doubling the lead but was
penalised for a double movement. However, he made amends with a
legitimate score finishing off a superb rolling maul.
Luke Rookyard unluckily hit the uprights with both conversion attempts.
Leek scored a breakaway try in the last 5 minutes in their only
excursion into the Burntwood 22.
