Burntwood U12's versus Spartans at home

With a squad somewhat depleted by Easter holidays etc. the U12's again put together a good overall performance.
Thomas Hansen-Smith moved from his normal role as fullback to play a controlled game at scrumhalf while diminutive Cameron Mia totally enjoyed his run out as hooker.
For more than 10 minutes of the first half neither side had any opportunity to score, but the Spartan pack were the more dominant in both scrums and lineouts. It was of no real surprise that eventually, as in their previous encounter it was Spartans who opened the scoring with a converted try.
This score finally sparked the Burntwood U12's into life and with some spirited drives and a couple of smart passes Rhys Thomas went over to score a try. Unfortunately the conversion was missed and at halftime Burntwood trailed 5 -7.
Burntwood started the second half much more determined and began to win both scrummage and lineout ball. The pack as a whole drove with the ball well and this resulted in a try by Harry Davison, this one successfully converted by Callum Heath. It began to look like further scores were there for the taking, especially following some dynamic runs from debutant Freddie 'Vianakola' Jones, who played happily at both leftwing and fullback. Unfortunately it was not to be Burntwood's day and it was Spartans who in the closing minutes scored a slightly disputed converted try to clinch the game.

Final score: Burntwood 12 - Spartans 14

This must be seen as a big improvement on the Spartans 31 - Burntwood 12 score line when we visited them only 7 weeks ago.
