Burntwood U17s cut loose with 10 tries away to Handsworth to complete their league programme with a 62-0 win. They used their possession far better than the week before and were worthy winners against plucky opponents.
Playing down the slope, Burntwood were quickly camped in the home 22. Despite losing Danny Smith to the sin bin after just 2 minutes, they scored their first try when they were down to 14. Danny Hackett stormed over with defenders hanging off him.
Russ Lingwood hit the backs line at pace to crash over for the next. Hackett was in again following good handling amongst the forwards and then Lingwood also scored his second after looping around in support. One Ben Holt conversion made the half time score 22-0.
Despite playing up the slope in the second period, Burntwood had even more territory and possession to create more holes in the home defence. Hackett completed his hat trick with an angled run to the posts. Scott Slater was on the end of a good backs move for a score by the sticks and then Hackett took his personal tally to 4, going over following a ruck.
Burntwood polished off Handsworth with 3 tries in the last 10 minutes. Firstly, Ron Hampton benefited from some clever off-loading to score. Then Josh Bayliss cleaned up untidy ball to touch down. Finally, came the best try of the game. Sam Cotter broke from a scrum and threw a superb dummy to take him clear to the line. Five more conversions by Ben Holt completed the tally.
Handsworth had their moments, particularly at the end of each half, to score but they met solid defence. Hackett, full back Zack Ward and Ben Bailey in the pack were the stand out performers.

Despite losing, Burntwood U15s put up their best performance of the season away to Bromsgrove, eventually going down 17-12.
Play was evenly matched early on until the home No.8 got the scoreboard moving with an individual try.
Centre Luke Briggs was unlucky to have 2 scores ruled out but he made no mistake at the 3rd time of asking, showing some silky running skills to cross the line. Mitch Carless converted.
Just before half time Drew Mellor was unfortunate enough to break his arm. All the squad send him best wishes for a speedy recovery.
The match was moved to another pitch whilst an ambulance was sent for and Bromsgrove took advantage of the disruption in the Burntwood ranks to score 2 quick tries and a conversion.
Sam Preece showed fine ball skills to score a second half try and his side mounted intense pressure on the home line but a couple of wrong options cost them what would have been a well-deserved share of the spoils.
Brad Carter and Kyle Marshall were the pick of a fine team performance.

Burntwood U14s gave debuts to 5 newcomers away to Spartans and they all showed up well despite suffering a 24-10 reverse.
There was some great defence on both sides in a well-controlled game. First scorer for Burntwood was Oliver Aleksejuk who went over in the corner following several phases of play.
In the second half Ellis Gethin, one of the newcomers, completed a 40 metre run for a fine individual try to bring the score back to 24-10. Man of the match for Burntwood was Sam Power who was outstanding on the day.

Burntwood U12s shared 24 points at home to Old Yardleians in a match played in ideal conditions. The home side were first to settle and a good drive by the forwards created a gap for Harry Davison to run through and score.
The match was very even with both sides sharing territory and possession. The deadlock was broken when Davison’s charging run took him in for his 2nd try, converted by Callum Heath.
Old Yards levelled the scores with 2 tries and a conversion in the second half. They almost clinched it with a try by Daniel Hewitt, one of 3 players including James Whitehouse and Jack Millward loaned to the opposition to make up their numbers.

This Saturday Burntwood face their toughest league game with a trip to Old Halesonians who sit unbeaten at the top of the league. The 2nds host Lichfield 3rds and the 3rds are TBA.
On Sunday morning the U17s are at home to Bridgnorth in the national U17s cup – K.O. 11.00am. The U16s (H) and U13s (A) face Barkers Butts, the U15s are away to Handsworth, the U14s are at home to Kenilworth and the U12s host Uttoxeter.
