Burntwood Colts found themselves 17 points down at half time away to Bromsgrove but they staged something of a revival before finally losing out 27-15.
Playing with the wind at their backs, Bromsgrove had most of the possession and territory in the first half condemning the local lads to defensive duties. The hosts made use of their bigger pack to organise a rolling maul for the first try after 10 minutes.
Five minutes later it was their No. 8 scoring from a scrum 5. Then from a tapped penalty Bromsgrove launched a crash ball centre over by the posts for a converted try. Matt Wood’s fine touch kicking helped to limit the damage.
Burntwood aimed to run their possession after the turnaround and within minutes of the restart Wood ended one attack with a penalty goal.
Shortly afterwards, Tom Restall, Amrit Derry and Danny Hackett combined well to threaten the home line. When Derry was stopped a metre short, Hackett forced his way over. Wood converted to put Burntwood right back in it at 10-15.
Unfortunately, with the visitors committed to attack, a loose ball was hacked downfield and Bromsgrove mauled their way over for a converted try.
Burntwood hit back and after good work by the forwards, possession was moved down the backs for winger Zack Ward to score.
Burntwood continued to press but it was Bromsgrove who had the last word with another try to seal their victory. However, Burntwood’s young colts can take great heart from their performance against the Bromsgrove senior colts.

Burntwood U16s have a good record against Warley but they found themselves faced with a stiffer task against a strengthened line up at The Sportsway on Sunday morning. However, a close result still went Burntwood’s way by 2 tries to nil.
The home defence was superb in the first half to keep Warley at bay. The deadlock was broken midway through the second period. Adam Lampitt made a fine break from 25 metres to go over in the corner.
Uplifted by the score, the home forwards dominated play. Twice Gary Eccles was held up on the line before Joel Ward squeezed his way over in the other corner to complete the scoring.
Mike Cooper was the pick of the forwards whilst Eccles was superb in defence, particularly in the last 5 minutes when the visitors tried to salvage a score.

After 2 setbacks in recent weeks Burntwood U13s bounced back with a 27-17 win at home to Bromsgrove despite falling behind twice.
They were 7 points down after just 5 minutes but a bullocking run from lock forward Ryan Mason saw him score Burntwood’s first points then a great individual try by A. Dunnet put his side in front.

Burntwood under 14's Report

Due to recent games being cancelled Burntwood were pulled out of the pool and set a task of playing Handsworth who were a complete age above Burntwood. After a few concerns about size and age Burntwood showed a good account and when possession was won our backs tested Handsworth to their limits which resulted in a great try by Tom Woodward .
> However Handsworth had a man mountain of a number 8 which caused all the damage. Burntwood finally went down 22-5, Burntwood's man of the match was scrum half Joe Blacker who never missed a tackle and commanded the field.

Burntwood U12's versus Rugeley - 27/01/08

In their first match of the New Year the Burntwood U12's were quickly back to the task with a try being scored within the first two minutes by newly appointed captain Harry Davison. With Rugeley having won on their two previous encounters Burntwood were truly up for revenge and with a gritty performance by the forwards and some good handling from the backs the score line only got better with two futher tries being scored by Prop Sean Latham. Rugeley then scored and converted, but this only rejuvinated Burntwood culminating in a try by Sean Southall. With Callum Heath Converting two of the tries the final score was 24 - 7. Their was no 'man of the match' for this was a truly team effort, but Christopher Griggs and Cameron Mia both played good debut matches, with Thomas Hansen-Smith, Tom Haines, James Whitehouse, Joshua Birch and Mathew Ford all showing excellent promise for the future.
