Burntwood U17s seemed to have forgotten to move their clocks forward in a disappointing display at home to Leicester Vipers in the semi final of the National U17s Plate Competition. The visitors monopolised territory and possession to win 23-9.
Matthew Wood opened the scoring with an early penalty but Vipers responded with a try down the blind side. Wood put his side back infront with his 2nd penalty but then Burntwood conceded 10 points in just 2 minutes.
First, the Vipers’ kicker landed a penalty. Then, direct from the restart, their right winger escaped down the touchline for a try behind the posts which was converted.
Another penalty stretched the lead but a classy, long range drop goal right on half time by Wood gave Burntwood hope at 9-18.
However, the pattern of play remained the same after the turnaround with Burntwood unable to win enough possession to make inroads into the visitors’ half. It was to their credit that they restricted Vipers to a solitary try in a half which the visitors dominated.

Burntwood U16s also found the going tough at home to Barker’s Butts. They were well behind in the first half but made something of a second half revival, sharing 20 points to eventually go down 36-10.
They faced the slope on the school pitch in the first half and were overwhelmed by a Butts’ side who were strong up front and quick in the backs. Four tries, three of them converted, put the visitors 26 points up.
A rejuvenated home side came out for the second period and after just 2 minutes Adam Hasker crashed over for a try converted by Tom Evans.
Fifteen minutes of sustained pressure saw Burntwood unlucky not to add to their try tally, their only reward being a penalty from halfway by Adam Lampitt.
Barker’s Butts had the last word with a drop goal and a late converted try.
The pick of the forwards were Sam Mitchell and Kris Dudley whilst the best backs were Tom Moseley and Nick Peplow.

Burntwood U13's This local derby was played in real adverse conditions but not to be phased by the opposition Burntwood took the game to Lichfield. Burntwood went 5-0 up with an unconverted try from back row player Ryan Percox. Burntwood continued to press hard to gain advantage. A scrumage 5 meters from the Lichfield line saw Number eight Luke Thompson pick and drive from the line was stopped but managed to move the ball out wide to an awaiting Jordan Mcginn scoring the try, the conversion was missed. Slack play from the Burntwood forwards saw a breakaway try from Lichfield who scored from under the posts, conversion was scored. Further hard work from the Lichfield forwards saw a second breakaway try to put Lichfield in front 12-10. End to end attacks and stern defences from both sides lead to Lichfield increasing their lead. Further hard work from the Burntwood forwards saw Jordan Williams crash over for an unconverted try to which the experienced Lichfield replied with another converted try. Burntwood's response was a further try from Ryan Percox again unconverted. Lichfield upped their game latched onto a mistake by Burntwood to score the final points of the game. Final score Burntwood 20 Lichfield 32.
