Rugeley Colts 3 Burntwood Colts 27
League
With Burntwood’s rearranged league game away to Shrewsbury falling
victim to a waterlogged pitch for the second Saturday running and
cancellations for the 2nds and 3rds the only team to take the field were
the colts who made the short trip to Rugeley.
They returned with a comfortable win, scoring 2 tries in each half.
Tom Restall crossed for the first after 14 minutes. Matt Wood failed to
convert but he did land a penalty just 2 minutes later.
Danny Hackett scored the second and this time Wood converted to give his
side a 15-3 half time lead, the hosts having kicked a penalty close to
the break.
In the second period tries by Danny Smith and Wood plus a conversion by
the latter took Burntwood clear.
This Saturday Burntwood host Newcastle in a Midlands 4 West North game,
the visitors being one of only two sides to inflict a league defeat on
them this season. The 2nds play a Merit Table game in the opposite
direction and the Veterans welcome Newcastle 3rds. The colts have a
league game at home to Sutton Coldfield.
On Sunday morning the U17s host Lichfield, the U16s are at Eccleshall,
the U15s, U14s and U13s all travel to Newport.
On Boxing Day the club holds its Captain’s Ramble, meeting at The
Sportsway HQ at 10.30 am. A lap around Chasewater is followed by food
and refreshments back at the clubhouse.

Handsworth 41- 0 Burntwood
Handsworth won this well battled game by an overwhelming whitewash of
the Burntwood. The first try coming just after 7 minutes. Jake Hardiman
finished off a well worked forward drive. Burntwood then applied
pressure and came short of the Handsworth line after a well disciplined
Back line move. Ciaron Rowe added to Handsworth’s scoreline by a well
worked scrumage by Handsworth, the ball came to Ciaron to slot home the
try after evading two tackles. Both tries were converted. Half time
score 14-0.
Handsworth then made some substitutions with Joe Connors and Edward Lea
coming on. This then made a difference because just after Edward Lea
scored another try for Handsworth. A scrum originally won by Burntwood
was then poorly rucked and a quick tap penalty taken was scored.
Unconverted by Ciaron Rowe. Another scrumage and yet another try for
Handsworth, this time Sam Bedford Scoring after a surging run from just
inside his own half. He picked up on a mistake showing his quality and
cam home to just score a try after running half the pitch. Another scrum
won by Handsworth and well rucked out to the back line with the ball out
to the Handsworth wing. Brilliant defending by Burntwood before a costly
mistake ended up with Trent Hadley to score a try by diving on a loose
ball. This was Converted. In a game which saw no injuries, Handsworth
came on top but in all fairness Burntwood were a good Match , but not
good enough, Final Score 41-0.
