Burntwood 61  Cleobury Mortimer 0
Midlands 4 West North

Burntwood put their opening day disappointment behind them with a 10 try mauling of their visitors from Shropshire. They were 22 points up at the break and romped home in a one-sided second half.
They made a positive start from the opening kick off with full back Paul Donnelly immediately joining the back division to take play into their opponents’ half but winger Chris Smith couldn’t hold the final pass.
Burntwood opened the scoring in familiar style with a penalty from Craig Seedhouse after 12 minutes. A second long range attempt 5 minutes later fell short but it mattered little as the first try was scored just a minute later.
Line out possession was moved down the backs and this time Smith made no mistake, scampering in at the corner.
The 2nd try came near the half hour mark. Strong running by the forwards, notably Graham Shelley and Craig Goodall, took play up to the 5 metre line and Mark Partridge stretched over. Seedhouse converted.
Goodall was involved in the next try, making a break from half way before feeding Matt Bray. He dummied to the outside and then took off down centre field for a score under the posts. Seedhouse converted.
It took just 4 minutes to add to the tally after the break. A floated pass back inside was taken by Goodall who strolled in under the posts for another easy conversion by Seedhouse.
Three minutes later Matt Watkins reacted quickest when the ball squirted out of a scrum in the Cleobury 22 and he crossed near the left corner.
With the game effectively won, Burntwood really turned on the style in the last quarter to add 5 more tries. Good handling by backs and forwards alike set up skipper Shelley for his try under the posts. Seedhouse converted.
A burst by Lloyd Shelley was the prelude for Watkins’ 2nd try; right winger James Langford finished off a good passing move by the three quarters to take Burntwood past the half century and then the backs combined superbly from half way to release Smith for his 2nd try.
The final try scored in added time was probably the best. A sweeping move from long range was finished by outside half Seedhouse for a personal haul of 16 points to complete the whitewash.
Burntwood can take great confidence from their performance but they know there will be tougher tests ahead, beginning with their first away match of the new campaign at Leek this Saturday.

The Burntwood Development side travelled to Wednesbury and following a game of two contrasting halves, came back with a 27-14 win.
A much changed line up took the first half to gel, by which time the hosts had scored 2 converted tries. Burntwood’s only reply was a penalty by Antony Morgan.
It was a different story after the break, despite playing up the slope. Centre John Haire, who led the back line well all afternoon, began the fightback with a strong run to the line for the first of 4 tries.
Beau Hildick, comfortably Burntwood’s best performer on the day, scored the second, rolling off the back of a maul before Dave Humphreys and Morgan completed the win with tries of their own as Burntwood dominated possession and territory. The latter also added 2 conversions.
Mark Thomas produced a good performance after a late, unexpected appearance whilst youngsters Antony Cadman and Sam Wanty impressed in the backs.

Burntwood 3rds were involved in an entertaining contest played in good spirit at home to Aldridge 2nds. They overcame a shaky start to win 48-27 to take the Merit Table points.
As the scoreline suggests, it was a fast and open game. Skipper Ade Williams opened the scoring with a try but the visitors went ahead with 2 tries then Burntwood took over.
Pete Reynolds, who had an excellent game supported by Matt Cummins, ran in for 2 tries; Paul Lee also added a brace and Williams made it a double aswell. Ade Davison was the other try scorer whilst Adam Ansell kicked 5 conversions and a penalty to complete the scoring.

Burntwood U15s made it 2 wins in 2 starts by defeating Uttoxeter at home 12-7.The visitors were 7 up at half time but the home lads moved up a gear in the second period to secure the win.
Two great tries by Ashley Cockrill and Sam Wright plus a conversion from Hayden Hastie scored the points. Man of the match was Luke Maddox.

This Saturday Burntwood face Leek with the 1sts and 3rds away and 2nds at home. The veterans are TBA.
On Sunday morning the U17s host Coalville, the U16s face Newport and the U14s are away to Coalville.
